FLOWERHEAD ...ka-BLOOM! 1992

Artist Biography by

A Texas group that attempted to resurrect '60s psychedelia (but wound up sounding like Soundgarden), Flowerhead was a hard rockin' quartet that enjoyed a brief career during the early '90s. Consisting of members Eric Schmitz (vocals, guitar), Buz Zoller (guitar), Eric Faust (bass), and Pete Levine (drums), the band issued an independent, cassette-only release first, 1990's In the Toybox, before signing to the Zoo label and issuing two more albums -- 1992's Ka-Bloom (which the group toured behind with an opening slot on Blind Melon's spring 1993 U.S. tour) and 1995's People's Fuzz. Shortly thereafter, Flowerhead had gone the way of the buffalo.

PUSSYCAT TRASH Non-Stop Hip-Action 1995

PUSSYCAT TRASH were around back in the heyday of the UK riot-grrrl scene of the early 1990s. Along with the likes of HUGGY BEAR and SKINNED TEEN, they forged the backbone of a vital and vibrant underground scene. PUSSYCAT TRASH also contained a young Pete and Rachel, who later went on to form the amazing RED MONKEY. They also ran the inspiring Slampt records, which is unfortunately no more.

THE CLARKS Someday Maybe 1997

If you like the Jayhawks you'd probably like this. Rock with a taste of country.

Artist Biography by

I'll Tell You What Man
Since their formation in Pittsburgh in 1988, the Clarks have been grinding out country-influenced garage rock. Though guitarist/vocalist Scott Blasey, guitarist Rob Hertweck, bassist Greg Joseph, and drummer David Minarik built their early reputation on college campuses, their straight-ahead rock sound seemed equally compatible with commercial radio and barhalls across the rust belt. Their debut album, I'll Tell You What Man, produced a regional hit, "Help Me Out," and gained unusually strong radio play for a self-produced album. Subsequent releases -- The Clarks, Love Gone Sour Suspicion and Bad Debt (with Hertweck now going by Robert James), and The Clarks Live -- each doubled the sales that had been earned by the previous album and developed the Clarks from a Pittsburgh phenomenon into a band that had great regional appeal and a small national presence. That presence was solidified thanks to the band's move to major label MCA with 1997's Someday Maybe; however, the Clarks remained silent for three years afterward, even as their back catalog became available nationally through the King Mouse label. They finally returned in 2000 with Let It Go, their first album for Razor & Tie. The label kept them on the roster, and the following year they stepped back into the studio to work with producer Justin Niebank on Another Happy Ending, released in the summer of 2002.

EGGSTONE In San Diego 1992

by request

Artist Biography by

In San Diego
Swedish pop trio Eggstone were formed in the city of Malmö in 1986 by singer/bassist Per Sunding, guitarist Patrik Bartosch, and drummer Maurits Carlsson; following years of steady touring and a handful of demos, in 1991 the group issued its debut single, "Bubblebed," soon after teaming with producer Tore Johansson to record the EP Shooting Time. Signing to the SNAP label, Eggstone resurfaced a year later with the full-length In San Diego, scoring a Swedish radio hit with the single "Can't Come Close Enough." The Michael Blair-produced Somersault appeared in 1994, with the single "Water" becoming a major hit in Japan, where Eggstone were dubbed "the godfathers of Swedish pop"; Vive la Différence!, the trio's debut for new label Vibrafon, was issued in early 1997. Ca Chaufee en Suede appeared fours years later.
